Welcome to Leap of Faith Birthing!

I am Gabrielle Burns and I am excited that you are considering me as your doula for your birth, adoption, VBAC, or postpartum needs and I am honored if you found me to come beside you as a bereavement doula. I am a Birth Doula (currently certifying through DONA), a Postpartum Doula (currently certifying through DONA), Certified Adoption Doula (SBD), Certified Birth and Bereavement Doula (SBD), and Certified VBAC Doula (TVL). I am also working on my certification to become a Childbirth Educator.

That sounds like a lot, right? Sometimes it can be; but, my goal is to gain as much knowledge along with my experience to aid women in having the births that they desire and to be able to come alongside them as they adopt or grieve the loss of their child. I want to ensure that women and families at any stage of the family journey are shown that they are loved, valued, and honored.

Leap of Faith Birthing was born out of my experiences in giving birth to my two boys and all that I experienced with them. I had an unnecessary C-section with my oldest because of fear tactics and a provider's watch. I struggled to get pregnant with my youngest, with two miscarriages before his pregnancy, and ended up doing IUI and losing his twin in an early miscarriage. The rest of his pregnancy was uneventful (though I didn't know I was still pregnant until 21 weeks) and went on to hire an amazing doula who helped me get a successful VBAC. I had been trying for a homebirth but my midwife was not a good match for me, yet God used that attempted homebirth and hospital transfer to redeem the hospital birth experience I had with my oldest. Through all of this I realized that I never wanted other women to feel unprepared or unsupported like I had with my births and God led me to see that I could do something about it. That led me to seeking training to become a certified Doula.

Though my experiences make me an evidence based strong advocate for you during your birth, I also fully acknowledge that this is your birth and my only desire as your doula is to help you have the best experience possible and to make it as much of what you want as is safely possible. You can trust that I will never push you to one decision or the other, but I will be honest with you and give you evidence for all sides and choices to the best of my ability.
